PDP Objective

Hell all!

Some guidance from Tammy around the PDP.

"The PDP document needs to be completed at the first visit following the Apprentices introduction/start date. It is recommended that this tales place within 3 weeks of the actual start date.

Using the skills scan a conversation needs to take place with the Line Manager and Apprentice of the training and development that the company will be implementing to  meet the gaps in the skills scan, the Skills Coach can also add the revision workshops for the PQ and technical skills workshops if the company has selected to include these; dates and workshop topics will be on the ILP.

At each Line Manager/Apprentice  review the Skills Coach is required to address the PDP and request that the Apprentice update where applicable.  This is a live document to enable training & development activity to be closed on completion and also add any additional training that takes place during the programme.

We need to be able to evidence very clearly that there are training and development requirements at the beginning of the programme to justify that the apprenticeship standard selected is right for the job role."

What questions do you have?

Hi Sam,

Another question here - is the PDP used to record learning and development activities that will help fulfil the career aspirations of the learner (for example a promotion) or gaps in the skills scan that need to be filled (as per Tammy's guidance above) or both?

Thanks Mark

Hi Mark,

This can be an and / or scenario.

A learner may not have a skills scan gap so it would focus on career advice and the like.

Where a learner has a skills scan gap, this could be also be included in the PDP - provided the learner sees that as a personal development activity.

I hope that makes sense.

Sam
